Lafayette School District commenced a vocal music partnership. By combining
LASF funds with new funding from the Lafayette School District, the School
District can afford to hire credentialed music teachers for each school.
All Lafayette school children are the beneficiaries of 30 minutes of vocal
music each week.
Instrumental Music ProgramLASF pays for the instrumental music aides hired by the
the instrumental music teacher. The aides allow for greater small group
instruction.
California Symphony LASF
funded this as a pilot program at Lafayette Elementary School beginning
in February, 1995. It has since been funded to all schools on a rotating
basis. The Education in the Schools Program has been enthusiastically
received by the teachers and administration. Currently, the instrumental
music program is an elective in the Lafayette School District. However,
the California Symphony's program exposes all the students to instrumental music,
the symphony orchestra, and its four instrument families. This early exposure
to professional musicians stimulates, excites and encourages students
to appreciate music and to pursue music practice and performance. This
is an ideal way to prepare all students for the instrumental music program
offered to the fourth and fifth grade students and the middle and high school programs.
