LASF JOINS WITH PARENT ORGANIZATIONS TO PREVENT REDUCTIONS TO PROGRAMS
AND SERVICES FOR LAFAYETTE STUDENTS
Due to the state's current revenue shortfall, funding to both the
Acalanes Union High School District and the Lafayette School District
has been drastically reduced.
LASF, the organization that you know for outstanding enrichment
programs and direct district support, is proud to partner with Acalanes
Parents Club, Stanley PTA, Burton Valley PTA, Happy Valley Parents
Club, Lafayette PTA, and Springhill PFC to help save district programs.
This year, LASF has committed almost $1.3 million to the school
districts we serve:
Lafayette School District
Over 50% of LASF's K-8 budget directly supports programs of the
Lafayette School District. For the school year 2008-2009, LASF
has committed $500,000 of direct support which includes: support
for K-5 Science Lab, K-8 General/Choral, and Instrumental Music
Program. This is in addition to the $476,000 in LASF delivered programs in
art, science, music, writing, social studies, health, foreign language,
and more
LASF is currently working with the Lafayette School District to
evaluate programming needs and to establish program modifications
to LASF units that will maintain LASF programs while providing additional
financial support for District programs and services.
Acalanes High School
LASF is partnering with the Acalanes Parents' Club to provide a
total of $250,000 towards the projected District shortfall. LASF
will contribute $125,000 directly to the District in addition to
$175,000 of support for writing, music, art, science, and other
areas of study.

4TH GRADE GOLD RUSH UNIT
Beginning in April, all 4th
grade students will receive a first-hand look at the Gold Rush experience.
Through the LASF Gold Rush unit, they will see what it was like
to prepare for the trip to the gold fields, experience the hard
work of mining and the excitement and disappointments of gold fever,
and share stories of real miners, entrepreneurs, and settlers.
Students make a gold poke, pan for gold, use old fashioned laundry
tools, and learn about the Gold Rush through hands-on experiences.
Artifacts are displayed nd discussed.

SCIENCE FAIRS HUGE SUCCESS
The Science Fairs at each of
the elementary schools is a highlight of the school year.
Sponsored by LASF, parents organize the fair and invite guest scientist
to present each student with a certificate of participation acknowledging
his or her success in completing and displaying their science project.
This year's Science Fairs were exciting,
informative events that featured many projects by young and emerging
scientists. In addition, students had the opportunity to experience
hands on science with different activities and displays.
LASF thanks its volunteers and community
members who helped to make all the fairs a success.
Twenty four lucky kids from our elementary
schools just had their LASF artwork professionally framed as a donation
from Fastframe of Lafayette. Look for these masterpieces
as they travel throughout the City -- Fastframe of Lafayette, Town
Hall Theatre, Chow Restaurant, and Papillon Cafe. Many thanks
to Fastframe owner Anthony Ruiz for his generous donation of time,
talent and materials over the last four years to showcase Lafayette
children's artwork.
Artwork for this tour was randomly selected
from a raffle called “Luck of the Draw,” held during
the spring LASF Art Fairs at each elementary school. Read more information
